Proper Install Checklist – 12V / 24V Soft-Wash Systems
To do a proper install, you must start with the right tools and the right numbers.
- Essential Tools
- Voltage Meter – Tells you if the pump is getting proper power under load.
- PSI Gauge – Confirms the system is producing correct pressure and flow.
These are your two most important tools. They prove whether your install is right.
- Know Your Pump
- Check the pump tag or spec sheet for rated amperage and voltage.
- Add in surge rate (start-up amps) and travel distance (total wire length from battery to pump and back).
- Run the Numbers
- Use Ohm’s Law and voltage-drop calculations to size your wire, breaker/fuse, and switch/relay correctly.
- Example: If the pump surges to 35 amps, build for 40 amps minimum.
- Never use 30-amp protection on 20-amp wire.
- Order Supplies
- Once the math checks out, order marine-grade tinned wire, sealed connectors, proper gauge ring terminals, and a breaker rated 125–150 % of operating amps.
- Final Test
- Hook up your volt meter and run a voltage-drop test at full load.
- Use your PSI gauge to verify consistent pressure. Tip To pressure test. Watch the PSI on some tips
- If both numbers check out, you’ve got it right — the pump, the wiring, and the install are all working together.

- UNISEAL over BulkHeads here is the WHYI always show the proof. So here are a few bulkheads that will cause you a major headace. when you can’t find the leaks. This is 99% the time cracked. - You must MIX your SOAPPlease don’t just DROP the SOAP in. What a waste of money and uneven soap. Use a paint paddle mixer. Mix it for awhile. Most soaps are heavy and will sink to the bottom. So you will draw all that soap up fast and be out.
- You have to Filter before the Water TankThis is another thing I started seeing down the road. All you see is fiters right before the pump. What happen to filtering before the pump so aren’t sucking dirty water into your soft wash system.

- Not a good idea!You must know the correct fuse for the line you’re running.You can’t put a 30-amp breaker or fuse on 20-amp rated wire — that’s asking for a meltdown, not performance.Always size your protection to the wire rating, not the pump draw.
- My wire I useThe only wire I will run on a setup. We are building a salt water boat. So no bare copper should be used. 6 AWG 80 amp wire so we have enought for this setup.
